Quest for Happy
A documentary pilot produced by BASE TV Studios combining psychology, sports, and travel into one! The wider series aims to explore what “happiness” means in communities around the world. In this segment, shot in Taiwan, we look at the crossover between happiness and outdoors adventure specifically. Who are the people that found it there? What are their stories, and the science behind how they feel?
With the crew, I traveled through lush forests, climbed striped sea cliffs and biked wild, winding tracks, fully immersing myself in and reacting to each of these environments, showcasing Taiwan as Asia’s hidden adventure gem.
I spoke with locals from different walks of life, learning how they had chosen to (in this case, adventurously!) sustain themselves through life’s challenges, and what the reality of that looks like. The series we hope to make explores what achieving “happiness” looks like or means across different cultures and societies. Times are tough in many places; mental health crises are engulfing generations. What knowledge can come to us through the way people live and adventure around the world?
This episode was shot with support from the Taiwanese tourism board, and brand sponsors Suunto and Arc’teryx. Thank you!
